Naturopathic Medicine
- Naturopathic medicine is holistic, preventative, and focuses on the whole person--from the inner workings of your cells to the social, cultural, and geographical contexts that can affect your health, and from the physical health of your body to the interconnected layers of mental, emotional, and spiritual health. Naturopathic doctors are trained in modern medical diagnostic methods and treatments as well as successful natural remedies that have been passed down for centuries. Treatments are tailored to each individual and are guided by the principle that everyone has an innate healing capacity and that our work is to remove obstacles and add supports so that that innate healing process can do it's extraordinary work of creating balanced health. Those added supports/treatments can be nutritional, lifestyle changes, environmental modifications, exercises, herbal remedies, vitamins or supplements, hands-on therapies, meditation practices, prescription medications if needed, or simply heart-centered listening--one of the most powerful treatments of all.
- Dr. Hebert's specialty is in the overlay of mental/emotional/spiritual health with physical health. Drawing on her diverse education and work experience (see bio) she offers fresh perspectives on ongoing or chronic conditions. She can help you learn about what is happening in your life and body, explore and gather meaning from your health and illness experiences as you heal, and support you in centering your life on what is truly important to you. Dr. Hebert agrees with Jeanne Achterberg, PhD, who wrote “Healing is a lifelong journey toward wholeness.” In support of your journey, and breaking the prevalent culture of rushing that we all experience today, visits with Jessica are spacious and relaxed, allowing you to grow and unfold at your most natural pace.
Massage Therapy
- Swedish massage - involves fluid gliding movements and rhythmic compression and release of muscles to release tension and help client's experience the interconnectedness of the whole body
- Deep tissue - this technique speaks to the specificity of the work, focusing the massage work on a very specific muscle or pair of muscles to help that area release. This technique commonly involves increased level of pressure to those muscles as well, but very specific work can still address a deep layer of muscle without being painful.
- Trigger point therapy - when you experience sensation such as dullness, aching, or a radiating quality away from the point on the body that is actually being pressed, that is usually a trigger point. Trigger point therapy involves pressing and releasing these points for specific amounts of time to release tension and help any adhesions in the muscle open up so that nutrients can come in and heal the tissue.
- Positional release - finding a 'position of ease' in which the tender muscle point is no longer so tender and then supporting the body in that position for a specific period of time helps your body's pain signal to reset so that the muscle is no longer tender.
- Muscle energy stretching technique - by utilizing your body's nervous system reflex of relaxing an opposing muscle group when the opposite side is activated, this guided stretching technique is very effective
- Craniosacral Therapy/"hands-on listening" - a form of deep listening to the fascia, bones, and organs of the body in order to release restrictions that cause pain, tightness, or imbalance in the body. Craniosacral therapy as I practice it involves gentle hands on holding of the head/cranial bones, organs, or joints to allow unwinding and rebalancing of subtle body rhythms.
- Each session begins with setting of intentions that acknowledges the mystery and beauty of who you are and the world around us. Sessions last 1 hour and include clarification of goals and specific steps needed to reach them, education about tools to assist your progress, and appreciative acknowledgement of who you are in the present moment and what you have already achieved.
